Clay County Fair Getting Underway

The Clay County Fair gets underway tonight at Charley Brown Park in Flora.

Gates will open tonight at 5:30 for the Crain Scates Bucking Bulls Rodeo hosted by the Clay County Farm Bureau Young Leaders. Mutton busting sign up is from 5:30 to 6:45 for kids 8 and under, and kids must have a helmet. Bull riding and Barrel Racing will begin at 7pm. Cost to enter the rodeo is $10, those 5 and under get in for free.

Saturday morning at 8 am 4H general projects check in will begin with judging to start at 8:30. Rabbit and Poultry check in is at 3 pm with the Poultry show at 4 pm and the rabbit show and Jr. rabbit show to follow. The last event of the day will be the Clay County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Ag Olympics for those 8 and up starting at 7:00 pm. 

Sunday is check in day for 4H livestock, with weigh in at Noon. Registration for the kids pedal tractor pull at 1 pm  and the kids pull will be at 2 pm, hosted by the Clay County Farm Bureau Young Leaders. The 4-H Open Sheep show will be at 5:30 pm, and the ministerial alliance will present the Ministers of Comedy on the main stage at 6 pm. Sunday night at 7 pm will be the greased pig contest sponsored by UPI in Fairfield and the Talent Show on the main stage.

On Monday the fair will kick into high gear with the 4-H Beef Show at 8 am followed by the Junior Beef Show, then the Sheep Show at 2 pm. The mini livestock show for those age 4 – 8 is at 5 pm sponsored by the Young Leaders. The Little Miss Pageant will start at 7 pm Monday with admission $7 for adults and $3 for kids 2 – 12. 20 girls are vying for the Little Miss Title. Carnival rides will also open on Monday night.

Tuesday, at 8 am is the 4-H Swine show and Open Beef Show, followed by the goat show and at 5 pm the Master Showmanship Contest, sponsored by the Clay County Farm Bureau Young Leaders. On the stage at 7:30 pm will be the Junior Miss Clay County Fair Pageant and pie auction. There are 12 young ladies in the Junior Miss Contest. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for kids 2 – 12. 

Wednesday will start at 8 am with the Junior Swine Show followed by the Junior Goat Show, Junior Sheep show and then the Tractor driving Contest at 1pm. DaS zle Dance and Tumble will perform at 5 pm. Admission is free. The Livestock Auction will begin at 6:30pm.

Thursday opens at 9 am with the Open Dairy Show followed by the 4-H Dog and Cat Show. Joni’s Power & Grace Tumbling will be on stage at 5pm. The 4-H Horse show and Junior Horse show is at 6pm. The Andy King Band will be on stage 7 to 9:30 pm. Admission $5 with those 6 and under admitted for free.

The Fair will culminate with the Clay County Fair Queen and Future Miss Pageant Friday night at 7 pm, with admission $7 for adults and $3 for kids 2 – 12. Those competing for the Miss Clay County Fair are Alyssa Griffy, Elaina Kessler, Emma Griffith, Landree Erwin, and Madison Gerard.
