IDOT Announces Transportation Projects

The Illinois Department of Transportation has released the latest five-year plan for transportation improvement projects. The list includes the Fayette Avenue reconstruction project now underway.

The $44.1 million project involves additional lanes and reconstruction of 1.5 miles, curb and gutter, storm sewer, land acquisition, utility adjustments, and ADA improvements from Illini Drive to east of Long Street are programmed during Fiscal Years 2023 to 2028.

Specific to this fiscal year is additional lanes and reconstruction of 0.8 mile, curb and gutter, storm sewer and ADA improvements from Illini Drive to Banker Street, as well as land acquisition from Banker Street to east of Long Street at a cost of $32 million. 

Other projects in the region include:

--the Interstate 57 interchange at Illinois Route 16 at Mattoon. The work will include two bridge replacements, interchange reconstruction and resurfacing on 1.5 miles at a cost of $38.2 million (this fiscal year)

--reconstruction of one mile of Interstate 70 at Altamont including bridge superstructure replacement, bridge removal and demolition, and bridge raising at a cost of $15 million (during the five-year plan)

--four bridge replacements, median crossovers and railroad flagger along Interstate 57 at Eastern Illinois Railroad just south of the Neoga interchange and US Route 45 at the Neoga interchange at a cost of $18.4 million (during the five-year plan)
