Two people were taken for treatment after a boat struck a seawall Tuesday morning on Lake Sara.

The incident happened just after 11am in Shumway Cove.

Effingham County Dive Rescue Team Commander Terry Trueblood said four teenagers were boating; one driving, one filming and two skiing when the incident occurred. Trueblood said the skiers saw the boat approaching the seawall and dropped their tow ropes and avoided injury. The two aboard the boat were hurt. They were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, where they were treated then released.

The contact with the seawall tore the hull off the front of the boat.

Trueblood said no drinking was involved in the incident. He said a written warning was issued, but no citations.

In addition to the Dive Rescue Team, agencies assisting included the Shumway Fire Protection District, Effingham Water Authority Police, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the Effingham County Sheriff's Department.
