South Central School Board Update

Superintendent Kerry Herdes says they will be ready for the start of school.
“Things are going according to plan.  We knew there would be a little delay in materials and time but it’s went very smooth.  We are looking at the bathrooms and renovations to the existing building being done by the 3rd maybe the latest the 4th week of July, so that there is time given for clean up debris and dust to the rooms affected.  The main addition area of the core building they are looking at a completion date middle of September.”
Herdes says until the addition is complete, students and staff will still have to walk outside between the main building and gyms, but that will be no different than what has been done in the past.
The board approved a one year contract with the South Central Education Association.   The board also approved raises for non-union and support staff as well as setting the pay for substitute teachers.  Herdes says the raises are in the four-percent range and adopts the new $40,000 minimum pay for starting teachers.   Some support positions have been increased $1 an hour to meet the new minimum wage that takes effect January first of next year.
The board approved a one year contract extension for Superintendent Kerry Herdes and Principals Sara Rose and James VanScyoc to run until June 30th, 2026..  They also okayed a contract with Assistant Principal Jake Skibinski effective the 2023-24 school year to run for three years until June 30th, 2026.
The board approved the resignation from Lori Jeter.  Shelby McCarty was hired as a certified teacher and Mandy Ruholl as support staff member for the upcoming school year.  The board appointed Kaleb Welch as South Central High School student council sponsor.
