The 2023 Race Across America (RAAM) will be traveling through Effingham area.

The riders departed Oceanside California on Tuesday. The first riders could arrive in Effingham on Tuesday of next week. The majority of the riders will arrive Wednesday and Thursday with the stragglers arriving Friday or Saturday.

Local RAAM Coordinator Mike Tipton reminds that by the time they arrive in Effingham the riders will have pedaled 2195 miles from Oceanside California with 843 miles remaining to Annapolis Maryland. The riders and crew can be tired at this point. Please bear with them as they travel through our area. The drivers in our area have always been courteous and patient with RAAM participants in past years. RAAM participants have often complimented the drivers in our area. Please allow plenty of space when overtaking a rider, on US 40 especially as it has a very small shoulder.

Effingham Information

When: Tuesday June 20 - Saturday June 24

Where:  RAAM riders arrive on US 40 from Vandalia through Effingham on Fayette Avenue and leave town on Illinois Route 33 toward Newton and on to Robinson. (NOTE: Tipton has encouraged RAAM officials to bypass Fayette Avenue this year due to construction). They have not confirmed that they will do that. Tipton recommended using Grove to Maple, Maple to Wabash and then Wabash to Illinois Route 33.

We do have a time station at Effingham High School, near the Raney Street overpass.

If there are any questions or comments please contact Mike Tipton at 217-821-0422.
