An escapee from a Kentucky jail was apprehended by Effingham City Police Wednesday afternoon.

Dorsey Jacob Hutson escaped the Calloway County, Kentucky, Detention Center early Sunday morning. Authorities pursued Hutson over the past several days until he was taken into custody here.

Effingham City Police Assistant Chief Kurt Davis said some railroad workers reported a man walking along the tracks in Effingham. Davis said police responded and questioned the man, who turned out to be Hutson. He said Hutson initially gave officers some incorrect information, but said "the officers did some digging" and found that Hutson was the man being sought by Kentucky authorities. Davis credited his officers with "good police work" that led to the arrest.

Kentucky authorities say Hutson had been arrested there on burglary and assault charges.
