(RODARMEL)

A local man has been sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of indecent solicitation of a child.

65-year-old Clarence Rodarmel was taken into custody in January on a series of counts including grooming and child pornography, as well as the indecent solicitation charge.

Effingham City Police received a report of a possible sex offense on January 14 and were able to identify a possible suspect. Officers gathered additional information and evidence that led to Rodarmel's arrest.

Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said at the time of Rodarmel's arrest, "It is vital as parents to monitor and communicate with kids about the use of social media and electronic devices."

The other charges facing Rodarmel were dismissed. Rodarmel will be placed on up to one year mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

Meanwhile, Rodarmel still faces a charge of violating the terms of his electronic monitoring system. A preliminary hearing on that offense is set for June 22.
