A Mattoon woman was killed when a pickup truck in which she was riding struck a farm implement.
Dead is 47-year-old Kelly Leonetti. She was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Byron Scales of Mattoon that rear-ended an implement being pulled by a tractor driven by 40-year-old Matthew Peters of Neoga. Cumberland County Coroner Donna Whitaker pronounced Leonetti dead at the scene of the crash.
The incident occurred at 9:47pm Tuesday on Illinois 121, a quarter-mile north of the Neoga Road. State police say Peters was stopped waiting on oncoming traffic to pass before making a left turn when Scales' truck struck the implement.
Whitaker said Scales was injured and was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment.
Scales was cited for DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
