Multi-Vehicle Crash East of Effingham Wednesday Evening

A multi-vehicle crash Wednesday evening shut down travel on a portion of the interstate on the north side of Effingham.

Initial reports are that four semis and a Jeep pulling a trailer were involved, with one of the semis catching on fire. The driver was out of the rig by the time the fire got started.

Three people were taken to the Emergency Room at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, and one person was airlifted to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The roadway was re-opened around 11pm. The crash happened between 4:30pm and 5pm.
