Effingham Water Authority trustees have approved a donation of $1,300 toward the cost of fireworks at Lake Sara over the 4th of July weekend.

Randy Thoele and the fireworks committee had requested $1,200 or more.

Thoele also shared that the fire marshal's office has requested fewer people in the area where the fireworks are being staged, saying that the fire marshal's representative shared that there were too many people too close to the fireworks last year. They would like to rope off a section for the firefighters and their families at a safe distance.

There was also a request for additional porta potties this year.

The Board accepted a policy regarding vendors at the beach, saying it is a good starting point. They also reviewed swimming pool regulations requiring that the bottom of the pool will be above an elevation of 584 feet. All sides of the pool will be 30 feet from water's edge at normal pool and must follow all other setbacks.

Water Authority Attorney Tony Siemer updated the Board regarding the Winterrowd property at Court Six, saying that he has refiled a suit asking for forfeiture of the lease of the property.

Tom Ryan of the Parks and Rec Committee reported that bids on Phase 2 of the beach project are due this week.

The Board also heard from local resident Scott Ealy on a Blessing of the Fleet event scheduled this Sunday afternoon at the lake.
