Illinois Jobless Rate for March at 4.4%

The March unemployment rate for Illinois was 4.4%, down a tenth of a percent from the previous month. Non-farm payrolls increased by 7,900 during the month. 

The industry sectors with the largest over-the-month gains in employment included Professional and Business Services, Leisure and Hospitality, and Government.

The sectors with the largest declines include Manufacturing, Trade, Transportation and Utilities, and Information.

The state's unemployment rate was 0.9% higher than the national rate for March of 3.5%, which was down from 3.6% in February.

The number of unemployed workers was 283,800.
