Narcan will soon be available at Effingham Public Library.

The medication that fights drug overdoses will be available in the Fearday Cafe of the library, as of this coming Monday. The library is making Narcan available through an agreement with Hour House in Charleston.

Library Director Amanda McKay said folks can visit the library and the Narcan will be available; you will not have to check it out, or even ask for it. McKay said other rural libraries have similar agreements.

The library board agreed to stay with the same slate of officers for the coming term. That includes Matt Greider and Jared Chesnut as co-presidents, Charlene Topel as secretary, and Shelby Dasenbrock as treasurer.

Board members also decided to look into the cost of security cameras that would be placed on the outside of the library building. McKay said there is a lot of activity outside library operating hours.

The Board also decided to participate in Illinois Libraries Present, an effort spearheaded by Northbrook Public Library. A number of authors participate in presentations through the Northbrook location through Zoom that wouldn't otherwise be available in Effingham
