Youth turkey hunters harvested a preliminary total of 1,309 birds during the 2023 Illinois youth turkey season March 25-26 and April 1-2.

Here are the county totals in this area:

Clay--36, up from 27 in 2022

Cumberland--13, up from 3

Effingham--10, down from 13

Fayette--26, up from 19

Jasper--11, down from 19 in 2022

Shelby--17, down from 21 a year ago

The 1,309 taken this year is up from 1,258 in 2022.
