Teutopolis school board members voted this week to award tuckpointing work at the high school building.

Low bidder Otto Baum was awarded the work, which is Phase 2 of tuckpointing at the high school, completing the two-story elevation of J.H. Griffin Gym. The work is being completed with the help of a matching $50,000 state maintenance grant.

The Board renewed the district's financial software for the coming school year; set a special reorganizational meeting for May 1 to swear in the recently elected Board members; approved student participation in the FFA state convention; and approved Jordyn Koester and Isabel Lee as student teachers at the grade school for the fall semester.

Board members discussed the handbook committee's recommendations for the student/parent handbook for the coming school year, with action possible on the handbook at the Board's May meeting.

The Board heard that Kindergarten registration numbers are such that a fifth teaching position will be needed for the coming school year; and heard highlights of the Kansas City Robotics field trip.

Superintendent Matt Sturgeon reported that workers com renewal is expected in May or June; that discussions on facility long-range planning with the architect have begun; that the high school musical will be this Friday and Saturday at the grade school with its new sound system; that policy updates will be considered in May or June; and that a tentative budget amendment will be considered in May.

The Board accepted irrevocable letters of retirement or resignation from Kathy Mitchell as grade school six-hour cook, Cassie Carpenter as scholar bowl sponsor, Nicole Lustig as grade school special education teacher, Amber Rose as grade school two-hour custodian, and Andy Mersman as JV tennis coach.

These people were hired or reassigned: Marcia Niebrugge reassigned as high school special education teacher, Jenna Funneman and Jessica Phillips as grade school special education teachers, Lois Overbeck as junior high three-hour cook, Rick Julius as groundskeeper, and Tim Runde as tech support specialist, and student DO workers and summer workers lists as presented.
