Work should begin later this month to renovate the skate park at Hendelmeyer Park.

Effingham Park District Director Jeff Althoff told the Park Board Wednesday that about $90,000 in work will be done to the facility this year, some of that via donated funds. Althoff said the middle portion of the skate park area will be removed and replaced with a concrete structure. The rejuvenation will include many different sized quarter pipe ramps, several rails and ledges for all levels, a China Bank with a ledge, a round bank, a three foot tall taco and more.

Althoff also updated the Board on plans to enhance the Effingham Bark Park at Evergreen Hollow Park. He said that drinking fountains for the dogs have been ordered, and work is getting underway to get more grass growing in the bark park. Seating and benches are also being secured.

As far as scheduled activities, Althoff said that children's soccer will begin in mid-April and the baseball and softball drafts will be taking place soon. He said registration for this year's Adventure Camps is underway.

Althoff said that repair work is being planned on the tennis courts at Community Park. The Board also thanked retiring member Jason Semple for his service during his six-year term.
