A so-called “magic list” of well-connected lobbyists played prominently Tuesday in the “ComEd Four” trial in Chicago. Capitol News Illinois reports the lobbyists favored by former House Speaker Michael Madigan included several people who’d worked for him, former lawmakers and others.

The list was among documents obtained by the FBI in a 2019 raid of the home of Mike McClain. He’s a longtime ComEd lobbyist and one of four defendants on trial for allegedly bribing Madigan with jobs for his associates in exchange for favorable legislation.

Four subcontractors who were paid more than $1.3 million collectively by ComEd over a period of years are at the heart of the allegations. An FBI official testified Tuesday that their investigation unearthed no evidence that those subcontractors did any work to earn their paychecks.
