The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education finalized a Letter of Agreement to purchase Little Lambs Early Childhood Education Center at a special meeting Monday night.

The Board had approved a letter of intent for the purchase last month. Unit 40 Superintendent Andrew Johnson said the eventual goal is to provide daycare for the children of district employees. He said that the children currently attending Little Lambs will be allowed to "age out" and then more spaces can be made available to children of district staff members.

The acquisition fee is $125,000.

Little Lambs leases their facility, so that will be a consideration for the district. Another matter to be addressed is that there are fewer seats available than children who could use those slots. Johnson said the district has to decide a process to determine who gets the slots.

Also at Monday's meeting, the Unit 40 board suspended a student from Unit 40 schools transportation through the end of the second semester of the current school year.

In personnel matters, the Unit 40 board hired Delaney VanDoren as a K-5 Summer Bridge Teacher and Ronda Flowers as a K-5 Summer Bridge Paraprofessional.
