Altamont City Council members Monday appproved a law enforcement mutual aid agreement with Effingham County.

The agreement states that Altamont police and Effingham County sheriff's deputies will come to the aid of each other in times of emergency. Each agency will be responsible for the liability of its officers in such situations.

The Council approved an agreement with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center to provide an employee assistance program. Under the agreement, Sarah Bush will provide counseling when needed to city employees and their family members. Also approved was a highway authority agreement with Wortman Holdings. The agreement provides that there will be no further remediation sought for the Wortman property along Carriage Lane where underground storage tanks are located.

The Council approved utility bill writeoffs. This is the first such writeoff since 2015. Unpaid bills will be referred for debt collection, and the tax refunds of those with unpaid bills will be garnished until the bills are paid.

Altamont council members also voted to give all non-union City employees a 3% pay raise effective June 1.
