The Indianapolis man charged with the robbery of a local bank last year has pleaded guilty.

46-year-old Corey Ellerbe entered a guilty plea Monday to Aggravated Robbery. He was sentenced to eight years in prison. Ellerbe will be placed on two years' mandatory supervised release once out of prison. He was given credit for 358 days served while awaiting disposition of his case.

Ellerbe admitted to entering First Mid Bank and Trust the morning of April 1, 2022. He inferred to a teller that he had a weapon and asked for cash. Ellerbe fled the bank and headed east into Indiana. Citizen tips helped authorities with locating Ellerbe, who was taken into custody in Vigo County, Indiana, later that day.

Effingham County State's Attorney Aaron Jones said that Ellerbe certainly deserved prison time for the offense. He said, though, that while Ellerbe inferred that he was armed, he did not have a weapon and no one was injured in the incident. Jones said that the teller is satisfied with the resolution of the matter.
