30 years in prison.

That's the sentence agreed to by a Texas resident who pleaded guilty in Effingham County Circuit Court this week to Controlled Substance Trafficking.

47-year-old Ricky Trevino was eastbound on I-70 in Teutopolis Township when he was stopped by Illinois State Police in May of 2022 for a traffic offense. A search of Trevino's vehicle turned up a quantity of fentanyl.

Trevino will have to serve at least 75% of his sentence. He will also be placed on 18 months' mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

In addition to Trevino's prison term, his traveling companion, Criselda Salazar, agreed to forfeit more than $24,000 in currency found with the pair when they were arrested.
