Progress Made on Fire District Tower Network

Things are moving ahead with the countywide fire district simulcast system.

Chris Overbeck of the Montrose Fire District and Tim McMahon of the Teutopolis Fire District said they are working on having all of the fire chiefs in the county signing off on Teutopolis serving as the host of the system. Once that is completed, and once contracts are approved on the locations that will serve as tower sites, the process of ordering the tower materials will begin.

Three sites in the city of Effingham are already secured, so that portion of the project is expected to move along more quickly.

Overbeck said he hopes the system will be in place within a year.

McMahon and Overbeck shared the information at Tuesday's meeting of the Effingham County 911 Board.

Also Tuesday, the Board accepted the audit of the past fiscal year's books.
