An Altamont man has pleaded guilty to an amended charge of attempted murder in Edwards County

The trial for 42-year-old Sean Curtiss had begun this week when prosecutors and Curtiss Wednesday agreed to a guilty plea in exchange for a 22-year prison term. Remaining charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.

Curtiss was arrested after an incident last summer in which Malinda Williams of Carmi was wounded in the leg, side and chest by gunshots during an altercation at a remote Edwards County location. She was treated for her injuries in both Mount Carmel and Evansville and was later released.

Curtiss will be placed on 18 months mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
