Altamont City Council members Monday heard about a beefed-up plan for the National Road Yard Sale.

The sale is scheduled for May 31 through June 4 and will be held in as many communities along the National Road as want to participate.

US Route 40 basically follows the route of the National Road, which was the first highway through this part of the nation. To celebrate that bit of history, a National Road Festival takes place and the Yard Sale is a part of that celebration.

Yvonne Flanagan, who lives south of Altamont, wants to make the sale a bigger event. Flanagan plans to hold an informational meeting on February 28th at 6pm in the Community Room of the Altamont Municipal Building to share information about her plans for the sale.

In regular business, the Altamont Council approved a Poppy Day Roadside Fundraiser on April 21. Also approved was two requests for front yard setbacks. One is for a carport and fence at 310 North 9th Street, the other is for a porch on the front of the property at 704 West Jefferson Avenue.

The Council approved a revised uniform contract service agreement with Clean Uniform, and made payments on a sanitary sewer replacement, a sidewalk replacement project, and a curb replacement project. Also paid was a health insurance premium, and raw water pump installation and a water main replacement project.
