Work should begin in March to add classrooms and renovate restrooms at the Dieterich school complex.

The Dieterich school board Monday awarded a contract for the work to K. Wohltman Construction of Effingham for $5,335,000.

School officials will be hosting a community meeting this Thursday evening at 5:30pm in the cafeteria. They plan to highlight the upcoming construction projects. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Also Monday, the Dieterich Board amended the school year calendar to reflect the use of one emergency day on January 25, and set the date for Dieterich High School graduation for Saturday, May 13 at 2pm.

The Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Regional Office of Education to allow the district to enroll students in alternative education programs, and approved having a Dieterich High School student compete in IHSA track and field events this spring.

Dieterich board members renewed the one-year contracts of building principals Scott Kocher and Josh Benefield for next school year, approved an extended unpaid leave of absence for Lindsay Burton through the end of the current school year, and accepted the resignation of Amy Casey as junior high girls basketball coach, effective immediately.

The Board reviewed the District financial profile, which is a 3.7 out of 4.0. The District scored 4.0 in all financial categories other than "percent of long-term debt margin". That item is reflective of the recent bonding the District completed for the upcoming construction projects. The Board also reviewed the ESSR spending plan and agreed to continue placing the document on the school website.

Board members also heard that the District was not selected to receive the Property tax Relief Grant. Only 32 districts in the state were funded in the grant.
