Effingham Unit 40 School District has canceled all after-school activities for this evening, has canceled classes for Friday, and has called off all after-school activities for Friday night.

Unit 40 Superintendent Andrew Johnson released a statement about the situation late this afternoon. It reads as follows:

"This morning Effingham Community School Unit District employees discovered a problem that affected the District's computer network. The District promptly began efforts to secure its network and contacted the appropriate local agencies for input on how to move forward. The District is continuing its investigation into the nature, scope and cause of the computer network problem and determining the necessary response."

The statement continued:

"Because of the disruption caused by the incident, the District is canceling classes for Friday, February 10, and all after-school and evening activities for Thursday and Friday, February 9-10. The District will continue to keep parents, students, employees and community updated on this matter."

Johnson left the PAVE Community Breakfast this morning once the problem was discovered and the District has been working on the situation since that time.
