The death of a local woman Tuesday was due to natural causes.
Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey said 83-year-old Marion Kosek of Blue Pointe Trail near Lake Sara was found unresponsive by a family member during the early afternoon. Kosek was discovered on the ground with large tree limbs near her body. Emergency Medical Services personnel were summoned and took Kosek to the Emergency Department at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham where she was pronounced dead.
The coroner's office was notified and an initial investigation appeared to indicate Kosek may have died from a blow to the head from a falling tree limb. Further investigation revealed that Kosek had a medical condition that likely caused her death prior to being struck by the tree limb.
The death was determined to be of natural causes, and no foul play is suspected.
The investigation was conducted by the Effingham County Coroner's Office and Effingham Water Authority Police, assisted by Shumway Fire Protection District.
