Shelby County Republicans have announced plans for recommending a successor to Nichole Kroncke as State's Attorney.

Kroncke announced her resignation over the weekend. The resignation will be effective January 31.

Kroncke is taking a position with the Illinois State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's Office in the Special Prosecution Unit. She will begin her duties on February 1.

Shelby County Republican Central Committee Chairman Jeremy Williams said, "On behalf of the residents of Shelby County, I want to thank Nichole Kroncke for her service to the County. She ran on following through with prosecutions and making sure our laws were enforced and she delivered on that promise. She has been a friend to law enforcement and has made our county safer through her efforts."

Williams said a search committee would be established. He said the process of interviewing candidates would begin shortly.
