Windsor school board members have approved a major renovation project at their school complex.

The work will include a remodeling of the gym lobby, as well as installation of air-conditioning in both the large gym and the practice gym.

Another portion of the project will involve new bleachers in the 1980 gym, along with refinishing the gym floor and placing the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets logo on the gym floor.

There are also plans to tuckpoint the 1936 portion of the building and to replace the window lintels.

The work will begin once students are dismissed for the summer in 2023. All of the work is to be completed by August 11, 2023 except planned electrical upgrades, which will be a 12-month project. Windsor Superintendent Erik VanHoveln said the air-conditioning will go into use once the eletrical work is completed.

There had been some consideration of constructing an addition to the Windsor school complex, but VanHoveln indicated the architects said such a project wouldn't succeed structurally.

At the recent meeting, the Windsor delayed until their December meeting a decision on a senior class trip; approved using the $50,000 school construction grant received by the district toward the cost of the renovation project, which is projected to cost $1.75 million, hired Pat O'Dell as bass fishing coach, and hired Payton Nichols as assistant junior high boys basketball coach.
