A Shelbyville man has been arrested on a series of charges following an alleged altercation with a Shelby County sheriff's deputy.

50-year-old Chad Hammond has been charged with three counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, driving while his license is revoked, aggravated assault, and criminal damage to government-supported property.

The charges allege that Hammond fled or attempted to elude Shelby County Deputy Brennan Atkinson Tuesday, driving at a rate of speed at least 21MPH over the speed limit, causing more than $300 to property, and disobeying two or more official traffic control devices. Hammond was also with the possession of meth charge, and with driving on a revoked driver's license. He faces eight prior convictions on that charge.

Hammond is also charged with allegedly assaulting the deputy by driving his motor vehicle toward him, and with knowingly damaging a Shelby County squad car.

Hammond was in Shelby County Circuit Court for setting of his bond.
