Fire Does Damage West of Beecher City

Fire destroyed a camper trailer west of Beecher City on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire occurred about 2:45pm on property owned by Dot Stewart. Tri-County Fire Protection District Chief Doug Ray said the property is about two miles west and a half-mile north of Beecher City. Ray said the fire was well underway by the time it was noticed. 

In addition to the camper trailer, the fire destroyed a small shed, two pickup trucks, and three acres of wooded area. 

Tri-County firefighters were assisted by fire companies from Altamont, Shumway, Herrick, St. Elmo, Stewardson, Effingham and Brownstown. 

The cause of the fire is not known.

One Tri-County firefighter was injured when struck by an item. He was treated on scene by Rural Med EMS and then examined at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then released.

Firefighters were on scene for about two hours.
