Dieterich village officials are trying to move ahead with assistance for property owners whose buildings were damaged by the August flood.

11 structures were affected by the flooding. The Village is trying to get approval for a Flood Hazard Mitigation home buyout program through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Progress was hampered, though, by a lack on information from IDNR on whether they would reimburse the cost of appraisals of the structures. The agency told the Village that they would have to wait until they dealt with claims from the city of East St. Louis, which was also affected by flooding.

That led the Dieterich board to cover the cost of the appraisals so their property owners can proceed with getting their claims settled. They will then seek reimbursement from IDNR for the properties.

The Dieterich board also approved a one-year extension to Christopher Niebrugge and Gregory Niebrugge to get their lot in Hartke Subdivision developed with a home, and renewed their agreement with EJ Water for water treatment and wastewater treatment operator service. Also approved was a resolution of support and commitment of local funds for the East Section Street storm sewer project. The Village received a grant of $550,000 toward the cost of the project.

The Board also reviewed possible changes to the village's liquor ordinance and agreed to help with the cost of Santa's visit to Dieterich on December 18.
