Jobless Rate Down to 2.6%

Effingham County's unemployment rate for September was down to 2.6%.

That rate is down from 3.3% in September 2021. There were 275 more people employed in the county than one year earlier. That includes 100 more people in Government, 75 more in Construction, 50 more in Leisure and Hospitality, 25 more in Professional and Business Services, and 25 more in Natural Resources and Mining. 50 person declines were seen in Trade, Transportation and Utilities and in Manufacturing. There was no change seen in Information, Other Services, and Financial Activities.

Area counties and their September rates: 

Coles--4.1%, down from 4.4%

Cumberland--3.1%, down from 3.4%

Shelby--3.4%, down from 3.6%

Clay--4%, down from 5%

Fayette--3.6%, down from 4.3%

Jasper--3.2%, down from 3.4%

Statewide, there were 6,109,000 people employed in September, compared to 5,871,700 in September 2021.
