The lawsuits filed by state's attorneys across Illinois against the SAFE-T Act are being combined into one suit to be heard in Kankakee County.

Fayette County State's Attorney Joshua Morrison said the lawsuit to be filed will argue that the SAFE-T Act is unconstitutional. More than half of the state's attorneys in Illinois have filed suit and will now join the suit in Kankakee County.

Morrison said a team of state's attorneys will help litigate the case. The measure will seek injunctive relief and declaratory judgment.

Morrison said, "Because the Attorney General's Office will have to defend all the suits on behalf of the State, trying to push 57 separate lawsuits through the court system all at the same time will only cause delay and confusion that may result in the case not being concluded until after it is implemented, which would be a disservice to the people of Illinois. Combining cases will also save valuable resources for the counties and the courts."
