Strasburg resident Tyler Newlin has been sentenced to four years in prison for offense committed in Shelby County.

The 39-year-old Newlin was sentenced on charges of unlawful possession of weapons by felons and unlawful possession of methamphetamine with a prior meth conviction. Newlin must also pay more than $11,000 in fines.

Newlin was earlier convicted in Lawrence County on charges that led to the counts filed in Shelby County.

Newlin was arrested in June 2021 after an abandoned vehicle was located on a trail that led to Sassafras Pond in Hidden Springs State Forest. A witness informed police that Newlin had been driving the vehicle. During a search, police found a glass bubble pipe containing meth residue inside the vehicle, three hypodermic needles, and 12 unfired 12-gauge shotgun shells.

The case was investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
