Illinois State Police released additional information about the crash of two semis that blocked eastbound I-70, east of Montrose, for several hours last Friday.

The crash happened at 4:45am two miles east of Montrose. Police say one rig was parked on the right shoulder of the roadway. The other rig crossed over partially onto the right shoulder and struck the left rear of the stopped semi. The moving vehicle then crossed back over the driving lane and came to rest in the passing lane, then caught fire and burned the majority of the trailer of the rig.

The driver of the rig that had been moving was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. The passenger in that rig was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the rig parked on the shoulder was not injured.

We have contacted the Cumberland County Coroner's Office for the names of those involved, but no information has been released.
