Some information has been released regarding one of two crashes that occurred Friday on Interstate 70, about two miles east of Montrose.

Illinois District 12 State Police released information on the second crash, the one that occurred on the westbound lanes. That crash occurred at 10:14am, several hours after the eastbound crash that occurred about 4:45am.

Troopers report that three vehicles were stopped on the westbound lanes when a fourth vehicle approached the traffic line and struck the farthest back stopped vehicle, spinning that last stopped vehicle 180 degrees. The fourth vehicle then struck the next stopped vehicle, which was then pushed forward and into the rear of the next stopped vehicle.

The driver of the farthest back stopped vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other drivers and any passengers refused treatment.

No names were released from that crash, and no information has been released on the eastbound crash, other than two vehicles collided. An official from the Cumberland County Coroner's office confirmed Monday that one of the parties involved in the eastbound crash was killed and that another was injured, but no other details on either crash have been made available.

Both eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours after that crash.
