Work is progressing on the Maple Flats solar energy project in Clay County, although at a slower pace than had been hoped.

Solar panels are beginning to arrive, but at a much slower pace than was anticipated. The panels are being installed as soon as they reach the site. The delay in receiving panels may push back the project completion date, but individual sections will be added to the grid as they are completed and are ready to go online.

Clay County board members heard this week that other work at the project is moving ahead. The substation has been in place and in operation since June. Invenergy, the plant operator, reported that they have broken ground on the operations building.

Roughly 250 people are working on the project.
