A fire got away from a rural Dieterich farmer burning trash Friday morning. The fire spread to 20 to 30 big bales of corn stalks and then into a shed.

Dieterich Fire Chief Ross Martin said the fire was reported about 10am at a dairy farm two miles west of Dieterich. The name of the farmer was not made available.

Martin said the dry, windy conditions played a part in the extent of the fire. He cautioned listeners to keep those factors in mind when deciding whether to burn.

Firefighters from Teutopolis and Montrose assisted Dieterich firefighters at the scene. Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours, as was Rural Med EMS.

No one was injured.
