Scam Regarding Electric Payments in Altamont

Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said there's a scam going on around that community regarding electric bills.

Heiens said City officials have received reports of phone calls from non-local numbers to Altamont residents. The caller claims to be someone from the Altamont electric department saying that the resident is late on their electric bill payment and that their service will be shut off if payment is not made.

Chief Heiens said the calls are a scam and said that people should not give out any personal information or make any payment over the phone. He said that if anyone has concerns about their electric bill, they should phone the City of Altamont directly at 618-483-5212.
