One person had to be airlifted from the scene of a head-on crash west of Effingham early Sunday morning.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened at 1:13am on the Funkhouser Road at the overpass over Interstate 70. A car driven by 21-year-old Jaxon Kincaid of Effingham was southbound headed up the hillcrest on the overpass while a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Adam Schackman of Effingham was northbound. Deputes report that Kincaid's vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane, attempted to correct, then turned back into the northbound lane and struck Schackman's vehicle head-on. Kincaid's vehicle came to rest on the south side of Schackman's vehicle. Schackman's vehicle caught on fire, but all occupants were able to exit the vehicle.

Kincaid was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then was airlifted by Arch Air to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Kincaid was cited for improper lane usage, and additional citations are pending.

Watson Fire Protection District firefighters assisted at the crash scene.
