Effingham County August Jobless Rate at 3%

The Effingham County unemployment rate for August was an even 3%, down a full percent from August 2021.

Total non-farm employment in the county in August was up 725 jobs from a year ago. That includes 300 more jobs in government, 175 more jobs in construction, 125 more jobs in educational and health services, 100 more jobs in leisure and hospitality, 75 more jobs in manufacturing, 50 more jobs in professional and business services, and 25 more jobs in natural resources and mining.

Employment declined by 100 in trade, transportation and utilities and by 25 in information.

No change was reported in financial activities or other services.

Area counties and their August jobless rates:

Coles County--4.8%, down from 5.4% a year ago

Cumberland County--3.6%, down from 4%

Shelby County--3.8%, down from 4.1%

Clay County--4.9%, down from 5.6%

Fayette County--4.2%, down from 5%

Jasper County--3.6%, down from 4.2%

The Illinois jobless rate for August was 4.8%, down from 6.1% in August 2021.
