Crash Near Altamont Injures One

A crash near Altamont injured one of the drivers Thursday afternoon.

State police say a pickup truck driven by 76-year-old Leo Kruenegel of Altamont slowed for a vehicle waiting to turn off US 40, two miles east of Altamont, but a following vehicle driven by 45-year-old Paula Burke of Effingham could not stop in time and rear-ended Kruenegel.

Kruenegel was injured and was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.  Burke was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

Police say the crash occurred at 5:14pm at the bottom of a hill.
