Leak in Forbes Lake Spillway

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources confirms a leak has been located in the spillway at the lake at Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area near Omega.

IDNR Director of Communications Jayette Bolinski says the agency’s engineering and water resources staff are aware of the issue and are working on plans to make repairs. She reports after Labor Day there is a possibility the water level will be lowered enough to allow staff to determine the location and cause of the leak.

Bolinski says at this time IDNR has no plans to close the lake, which is currently at normal pool. Visitors are able to use both boat ramps for access.
