Mattoon Man Charged in Shelby County

Mattoon resident Kevin Mars has been charged with three Class X Felony counts of armed violence in Shelby County.

The 35-year-old Mars was also charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine.

Mars is alleged to have been armed with two throwing knives and a pocket knife while simultaneously possessing a substance containing meth.

Bond for Mars was set at $50,000. He is next due in court for a preliminary hearing on August 31.

The case was investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
