North Clay school board members Wednesday voted to move ahead with work at their grade school building, and to look into what else might be pursued.

North Clay Superintendent Travis Wyatt said HVAC replacement and roofing work at the grade school is a must. The work will take place in the summer of 2023.

Beyond that, district officials are considering renovation, enclosing spaces and perhaps an addition at the high school building.

With that in mind, the Board voted to contract with Poettker Construction of Breese for construction management services. The agreement will be based on a fee proposal received on August 16, and the Board authorized Wyatt to sign the contract once it's approved by the District's legal counsel.

Wyatt said other possible projects could include water lines, a more secure high school entrance, and maybe another gymnasium. He added, though, that there is a long way to go and said that input will be sought from the community, the staff and the board before any decisions are made.

In other action, the North Clay board placed the tentative budget for the new fiscal year on file with final action expected at the September meeting, and opted out of the Comprehensive Personal Health and Safety and Sexual Health Education/National Sex Education standards.

Board members also approved Cathy Croy as Interim Special Needs Coordinator and posted a position seeking a bus chaperone and granting the administration authority to fill the position.

The Board also heard about the new high school gym floor and the arrival of the new Social Science curriculum for both the grade school and the high school.
