Teutopolis school board members Monday voted to allocate $20,000 toward the cost of new high school band uniforms.

The Band and Fine Arts Boosters approached the Board in recent months about a project to replace the current uniforms, which are 30 years old. The total cost is estimated at $43,000, with the Boosters working to raise the balance of the cost.

Board members heard from Carrie Copple, who discussed the lack of a dedicated softball field.

The district teams now play at the village park. The Board directed Superintendent Matt Sturgeon to pursue a joint meeting with representatives of the Teutopolis Park Board about a joint effort to improve facilities for both the school district and the village.

The Board also heard from Dave Pruemer, who feels the grounds at various school district facilities need an upgrade. Landscaping projects like trimming weeds and maintaining flower beds were among things Pruemer noted, in an effort to make the district grounds look their best.

Also Monday, Teutopolis board members approved a review of the district's Safe Return to School Plan recommendations; approved a tentative budget for the coming fiscal year with final action on the measure at a September meeting; and discussed the goal-setting sessions held recently. The Board set a final parent/community/staff listening session for August 30 at 6pm in the junior high school cafeteria. The Board will then hold a special meeting on September 7to review the listening session feedback and to formulate district goals.

The Board voted to authorize bonus payments to current employees for services rendered during 2021-2022--full-time employees receiving $1,000, part-time employees $500; and stipend employees $250.

In personnel moves, the Teutopolis board accepted a resignation from Kyla Hall as a high school counselor; reassigned Lori Mette from high school Special Ed teacher to high school English teacher; and approved these appointments--Bill Martin as junior high baseball volunteer, Jennifer Swingler as bookkeeper as of August 1, Minda Tarr as grade school custodian as of July 25, Sarah Wendt as grade school interventionist, Kelsey Hutmacher as high school Special Ed teacher, Rachel Habing as high school volunteer assistant cross country coach, and Antonio Munoz as high school volunteer assistant volleyball coach.
