Jobless Rate in County Below 3% in June

The jobless rate in Effingham County was down to 2.9% in June.

The rate is down 1.2% from the 4.1% rate in June 2021.

Total nonfarm employment in June increased by 875 jobs compared to last year.

Employment gains were posted in Construction (225), Government (150), Educational and Health Services (150), Manufacturing (150), Professional and Business Services (150), and Leisure and Hospitality (125).

Employment declined in Information (-25), Trade, Transportation and Utilities (-25), and Other Services (-25). 

No change was reported in Natural Resources and Mining, or Financial Activities.

Unemployment rates in other area counties for June:

Coles--4.8%, down from 6.2%

Cumberland--3.4%, down from 4.6%

Shelby--3.8%, down from 4.5%

Clay--4.6%, down from 6.2%

Fayette--4.1%, down from 5.4%

Jasper--3.7%, down from 4.5%

The Illinois statewide unemployment rate for June was 4.7%, down from 7.2% one year earlier.
