Altamont city council members have voted to award a bid for sanitary sewer improvements in the northwest part of the city.

The contract with Kieffer Brothers Construction of Mt. Carmel totals $698,708.85. Some of the work will involve replacement of sewer lines while the other work will involve lining the existing sewer lines. The project generally is bordered by 10th Street to 8th Street from the railroad to Monroe Street. A portion of the project is funded by a state grant.

The Council also paid $2,300 as the difference for a different type of water line than was first proposed in South Point Subdivision, and approved a payment of $29,950 to R&H Plumbing and Heating of Altamont for the demolition of structures at 301 South Edwards and 301 North Main.

The Altamont council denied a Gilbert Park agreement presented by Altamont Youth FIELDS since the organization is not yet registered with the State Attorney General's Office. Once FIELDS is registered, a revised agreement to be drafted by Altamont City Attorney Tracy Willenborg will be considered for approval.

The Council also passed an appropriations ordinance for the new fiscal year totaling $9,832,395.
