Two Clay City residents were killed and three other people were injured in a Friday afternoon crash in Wayne County.
The two Clay City residents killed were 61-year-old Evelyn Flexter and an eight-year-old girl. They were passengers in a van driven by 22-year-old Olivia Flexter of Clay City. The van was traveling south on US Route 45 when it reportedly pulled in front of a semi driven by 29-year-old Patrick Gaboury of Clinton, Iowa. The impact caused the van to leave the roadway and strike a tree.
Olivia Flexter was injured along with two other passengers in the van, a three-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl. All three were airlifted from the scene for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Gaboury, the semi driver, was not injured.
Olivia Flexter was cited for failure to yield.
The crash happened at 3:30pm Friday and remains under investigation.
