Man Found Dead at Altamont Residence

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Department and Rural Med EMS responded at 10:30am Sunday to 403 S. Third St. in Altamont, in reference to an unresponsive male. Emergency Responders arrived and found a male deceased in the garage. The male was identified as Jakeb R. Smith, age 29 who lived at that residence.

The Coroner’s office and the Detective Section of the Sheriff’s Department were notified and responded to the scene. Smith was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital morgue by the Coroner’s Office. Toxicology samples were taken and medical records were requested.

Information was gathered from family and friends to assist in the investigation.
